From November 11th to January 18th, hunters from all over CT will come here to duck hunt.
While we understand this is a cherished activity for hunters, the noise, especially in the predawn hours, is making life miserable for those of us living near the water or the marsh.
Hunting laws that were created 50 -100 years ago do not reflect the current reality of residents. Neighborhoods are now more densely populated by people who live and work here year-round. Therefore, we would like the DEEP and local authorities to make changes to mitigate the hunting noise in our neighborhoods such as:
—Delay the start time of morning hunting
—Extend the distance that guns can be fired from homes
—And limit the number of hunters who can be on a cove at one time
The only way the noise is going to change is if we as a community demand it.
Here is what you can do right now:
- Sign our petition.
- Please print the attached contact ACTION SHEET and keep it handy. Every time you are woken by the sound of gunfire, please call or email the contacts on that list and let them know you want them to do something about it.
- Get on our mailing list for notice about future town meetings about the noise on the cove.
- Volunteer to help us in any way you can. Print our poster and help us get the word out about Quietthecove.com
Alone, we can’t do much about hunting noise on the cove. But, together as taxpayers and as a voting block we can, and we will get compromises with DEEP that we can all live with.
